Naturalist, photographer and observer based in Slovakia, with a particular interest in the species and groups that most people never look twice at.
I am a naturalist based in Slovakia with a strong focus on documenting biodiversity across scales — from vertebrates and vascular plants to invertebrates and microscopic organisms.
My primary interest lies in cryptogams, especially lichens, mosses, algae, and charophytes, which I explore alongside a wide range of other organisms including amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals, butterflies, dragonflies, and other insects, as well as selected plants such as orchids and carnivorous species. Much of my time is spent in the landscapes of Slovakia — forests, wetlands, and mountains — but also in my own garden, which has become an unexpected place of discovery. I also explore other habitats around the world, always with the same curiosity: to notice what is often overlooked. Microscopy is an increasingly important part of my work, opening access to the hidden diversity of algae, diatoms, and other micro-organisms that are not visible in the field.
Since 2007, I have been running Birding Slovakia, , a long-term project focused on Slovak birdlife. I am a member of the Slovak Ornithological Society, the Slovak Zoological Society, the Slovak Botanical Society, and the International Research Group on Charophytes. My research outputs and observations are available via Researchgate.
